Excursions
| Exploring the surrounding regions of Buenos Aires is an integral part of adapting to and appreciating Argentinean culture. GSE offers a wide variety of excursions to several different regions in Argentina. Semester programs typically include six excursions. The following is a list of possible excursions. |

Iguazu Falls The magnificent Iguazu Falls are substantially larger than Niagara Falls and, although bordered by neighboring Uruguay and Brazil, officially belongs to Argentina. Set in Iguazu National Park, the cascading falls are surrounded by acres of natural wildlife, beautiful fauna, and hiking trails waiting to be explored. A visit reminds students why the falls are considered to be one of the greatest natural wonders in South America. |

Punta Del Este Punta Del Este is a popular vacation destination located on the southern tip of Uruguay. Considered to be the dividing point between the Atlantic Ocean and the Rio de la Plata, it is one of only a few beach resorts in the world to have two different types of beaches. The first of these is known as La Brava and has large waves, making it an ideal spot for surfing. The second beach, referred to as La Mansa, has no waves and is a popular family destination. Lined by ocean front hotels and resorts, Punta del Este is a great place to relax and soak up some South American sun. |

Santiago Santiago is the capital of Chile and considered to be one of the most cosmopolitan cities in South America. Like Buenos Aires and Montevideo, it has been heavily influenced by European colonization as evidenced by its stately architecture and infrastructure. Santiago is home to some of the finest cultural institutions on the continent and offers a wide range of museums, theatres, and art galleries for visitors to enjoy. Perhaps the city’s greatest landmark is its scenic location surrounded by the majestic Andes Mountains. |

Montevideo Montevideo is a modern metropolis that teems with European colonial charm. Home to 1.5 million people, it is Uruguay’s capital and the nation’s largest city. GSE participants can explore the Ciudad vieja (old town) with its 18th-century buildings and the bustling Mercado del Puerto. Students are also encouraged to visit the various museums, galleries, and theatres found on Avenida 18 de Julio in the heart of the city. |
