Exploring the surrounding regions of Sydney is an integral part of adapting to and appreciating Australian culture. GSE offers a wide variety of excursions to several different regions in Australia. Semester programs typically include four excursions. The following is a list of possible excursions. |

Great Barrier Reef The Great Barrier Reef is the only organic collective visible from Earth’s orbit. Located off the East Coast of Australia, the Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef ecosystem and is one of the Wonders of the Natural World. It is also home to a vast array of wildlife including dugong, green turtles, dolphins, whales, over 1500 species of fish, 4000 types of mollusk and more than 200 species of birdlife. It was declared a World Heritage Area in 1981. |

Hunter Valley Only a few hours drive from Sydney will find you in Australia’s famous Hunter Valley. With over 100 wineries this valley has been awarded numerous medals and distinctions for the fruits of its various vines.

Blue Mountains The Blue Mountains are a great escape from city life and are located just outside of Sydney. Named for the blue haze resulting from sunlight filtering through eucalyptus oil in the air, this wilderness is famous for its hiking, breathtaking vistas, stunning canyons, and sacred sites part of Aboriginal culture, ceremony and creation stories called the Dreaming. |
