Excursions
Exploring the surrounding regions of Florence is an integral part of adapting to and appreciating Italian culture. GSE offers a wide variety of excursions to several different regions in Italy. Semester and quarter programs typically include four to seven weekend excursions, while summer programs include two to three. The following is a list of possible excursions.

Rome Rome, the capital of Italy, is the origin of the vast Roman Empire that controlled a large portion of Europe and Africa centuries ago. Today, the "Emerald City" contains preserved ancient city ruins, the spectacular battlegrounds of the Coliseum, and the magnificent sights of Vatican City. |
|
Venice Characterized by its narrow streets and famous winding canals, Venice seems like a surreal dreamland. The charm of Venice has made the city world famous and one of the most popular places to visit while in Italy. |

Siena Located just south of Florence, Siena exudes a lively combination of culture, art, and pride. In Siena, the Palio is the ultimate expression of heritage. It consists of a day of parades, spirit, and the famous semiannual chaotic horse race around Il Campo (the central square). The competition puts Siena's 17 districts against one another in an all-out race of pride and passion. |

Cinque Terre The "Five Lands" of Cinque Terre are scattered down the Italian Riviera. Hidden by coastal inlets and hillside terraces, the villages are only connected by hilltop hikes and short boat trips that navigate around each cove to illuminate the beauty of the next coastal village. Whether spending a day basking in the sun on the sandy beaches or hiking the linking passageways, Cinque Terre is an experience for all to see. |

Chianti One of Tuscany's most picturesque regions, Chianti's green hills provide incredible perches for ancient castles which survey tiny villages. Its vast Arcadian vineyards produce world renowned wine, making a wine tasting trip ideal when visiting this area. | |
