“GSE was flexible yet still reliable; I knew that someone was always there to handle something if I needed help, but I also had a lot of independence, which was really what I wanted. I loved all the excursions and the provided housing. I enjoyed every day of the program and wish that I had done a full year. It was probably the greatest four months of my life and I can't say enough good things about my time abroad. My one regret is that I can't do it all again!”

Home to over 1.5 million people, Barcelona is Spain’s second largest city. As host of the 1992 Summer Olympics, Barcelona saw major investments that dramatically changed the city’s face. This thriving Spanish port is situated on a beautiful strip of Mediterranean coastline and is one of the most cosmopolitan locales in the world. In the center of the city is Las Ramblas, Barcelona’s most famous boulevard. This charming tree lined avenue is constantly bustling with life and activity from the assortment of street performers, human statues, musicians, open air markets, sidewalk cafes and restaurants present at all times of the day. As rich in life at night as in day, Barcelona’s intensity does not falter when the sun sets. After dark hundreds of taverns, discotecas, opera houses, and theatres all come to life. It is no wonder that more international students than ever are choosing Barcelona as their study abroad destination.
A Note on Catalonia
Barcelona is located in a region of Spain known as Catalonia. These Spanish citizens speak their own language that resembles a combination of French and Spanish called Catalan. Though Catalan is the region’s official language, all language courses will be in Castilian, the most wide spread Spanish dialect, referred to simply as “Spanish” in the rest of the world.
