Learn Spanish and Explore the Culture of Argentina
A primary financial and cultural center in South America, Argentina’s unique history makes it a fascinating destination for a study abroad experience. Once home to variety of native South American tribes, the land was colonized by Europeans in the early 1500’s. When formal independence from Spain was declared in 1816, Argentina began to come into its own. Taking into account both its Latin American surroundings and the European origins of its residents, the country formed a distinctly Argentinean identity fusing both influences together.
As European immigrants poured into the country, the nation’s prosperity increased as its cultural makeup evolved. Today, Argentina benefits from rich natural resources and a highly literate population. Historically, it has had the largest middle class population of any Latin American country and has been able to provide a generally high standard of living for its residents. Buenos Aires, the nation’s financial and cultural center, is a city unlike any other in South America.
Nowhere is Argentina’s European influence more visible than in the bustling streets of its capital city. Large boulevards lined with quaint shops and sidewalk cafes empty into quiet public gardens and grand squares, while the city’s extensive public transportation network quickly whisks visitors and residents alike to the many diverse neighborhoods that make Buenos Aires special. GSE invites you to explore one of the world's most vibrant cities - Buenos Aires, "The Paris of South America."
