French Language Courses and Phonetics Lab
GSE offers a French Language and Culture program at Université Paris Sorbonne - Paris IV (University of Paris IV - Sorbonne) during the spring semester. Students will take a placement exam and be enrolled in the appropriate level semester language course on site. Course levels range from beginner to advanced. Once enrolled, students will begin a required French language course, meeting two hours per day every weekday. In addition to the French language course students will attend 20 hours of a required phonetic laboratory which meets periodically over the semester. These two courses combine for a total of 140 classroom hours, and students will typically receive 10 semester credits for their completion. Though the two components will be listed separately on students transcripts, both must be completed in order to receive course credit.
French Culture and Civilization Lectures
All students will also have the option to attend French Culture and Civilization lectures. These lectures will be taught in French and focus on the areas of arts, geography, history, politics, and literature. The lectures will be offered weekly throughout the semester with each lecture lasting approximately two hours. By completing the entire program offerings (language course, phonetic lab, and optional lectures) GSE students may receive 12-14 semester credits.
