GSE offers enrollment at the University of Florence during the fall quarter. Although no language requirement exists, it is recommended that students have taken at least one semester of college level Italian language.
Required Language Classes
Language classes are approximately 10 weeks in length and meet for a total of 120 contact hours. Language classes will be held weekday mornings. On the first day of class students will take a placement exam and be enrolled in the appropriate level language course. There are four language levels offered including preparatory, intermediate, advanced-intermediate, and advanced. All levels are designed to develop grammar, conversation, and vocabulary skills. There will be a final exam for all levels at the conclusion of the course. Students may receive up to 8 semester units or 12 quarter credits for the completion of the language portion of the program. Though no language requirement exists, it is recommended that students have taken at least one semester or quarter of college level Italian before enrolling in the quarter programs.
Optional Cultural Lectures
In addition to the language portion of the program, students are able to attend cultural lectures for credit and non-credit. These cultural lectures are offered Monday through Friday in the morning and early afternoon, typically from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. (1 hour 45 minutes per lecture). Quarter-term lectures are offered 4-14 times per subject throughout the duration of the program. More detailed lecture information will be given to students upon arrival and enrollment at University of Florence.
Note: Interested fall quarter participants may extend their quarter to a semester or year abroad by continuing their study into the winter or spring quarters in either the same city or a different city offered by GSE. Doing so would merit a discount in tuition for the second program attended. Contact us for details.
