Semester Liberal Arts and Integrated Studies - Fall Semester 2006
Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF)
Barcelona, Spain
The Liberal Arts and Integrated Studies Program at UPF allows you the chance to take full advantage of the UPF’s integrated and innovative study abroad model. Through this program you can develop and progress in your Spanish language abilities, while taking Spanish cultural electives in English and Spanish. During the program you will take one Spanish language course and two to three cultural electives with instruction in Spanish or English. The language course will focus on the improvement of grammar and conversation abilities, with an emphasis placed on producing and understanding both oral compositions and written texts. Your language course level will be determined by a placement test you will take upon arrival. The electives, whether in Spanish or English, will teach you about the history, literature, and sociology of Spain and at the same time earn you credit towards your major or other degree requirements. As part of the integrated studies option of the program you will have the ability to take up to two courses in English or Spanish from a pre-selected range of UPF’s regular course offerings. These courses will actually allow you to be integrated into the UPF’s regular student body by taking courses with Spanish students. Courses are available from a wide variety of subject areas such as Law, Humanities, Business and Economics, Political Science, Computer Science, and Biology. Courses are available in Spanish and English, though to take the courses in Spanish students must be at the advanced level or above.
