Students participating in a Summer Spanish Language and Culture program will be enrolled in a four week course. Upon arrival all students will take a placement exam to determine the appropriate language course level they will take. Language courses focus on the improvement of grammar and conversation abilities with an emphasis on producing and understanding both oral and written texts. Though no language requirement exists, it is recommended that students have taken at least one semester of college level Spanish before enrolling in the summer programs. Students may earn up to 5 units of semester credit by completing this course.
Spanish Cultural lectures will be offered each afternoon following the Spanish Language courses. These lectures are optional. The lectures focus on the following topics:
- Spain in the 20th century
- Flamenco Music and Culture
- Keys to Spanish Contemporary Culture
- 20th Century Spanish Theatre
- Sociological Aspects of Present Day Spain
- Spanish for Business
NOTE: Students who have attended ALL of the Spanish Culture lectures may receive credit for this upon completion of an exam.
