GSE offers a French Language and Culture program at Université Paris Sorbonne - Paris IV (University of Paris IV - Sorbonne) during fall and spring semesters. Students will take a placement exam and be enrolled in the appropriate level semester language course on site. Course levels range from beginner to advanced. Each semester, students will begin a required French language course, meeting two hours per day every weekday. In addition to the French language course students will attend 20 hours of a required phonetic laboratory which meets periodically over each semester. These two courses combine for a total of 140 classroom hours, and students will typically receive 10 semester credits per semester for their completion. Though the two components will be listed separately on students transcripts, both must be completed in order to receive course credit.
All students will also have the option to attend French Culture and Civilization lectures. Upon completion of these optional lectures students may receive up to four semester credits per semster. Lectures will be taught in French with a focus on literature, art, and history. Upon successful completion of the entire academic year program offerings (language course, phonetic lab, and optional lectures) GSE students may receive up to 28 semester credits.
