Italian Literature I - From the Origin to the Renaissance

The Italian Literature course focuses on the works of prominent Italian authors from the 1500s and earlier.  Students will examine excerpts from authors such as Dante Alighieri, Francesco Petrarca, and Rime Giovanni Boccaccio.  Students in this course will analyze poems, prose, and Literature from various authors and discuss the past and present socio-cultural impacts of these works on society.  Additionally, students will view movie projections about Niccolò Machiavelli’s Il Principe as well as Torquato Tasso’s Gerusalemme Liberata.  The aim of this course is to familiarize students with influential Italian writers and to develop an understanding of the literature in the context in which it was written.
