The first semester of a two-semester sequence, this course is an in-depth analysis of the history, economics and French society in the 17th and 18th centuries. The lecture focuses on the ruling structures of the government and society and the changes in these structures. Topics covered include the monarchy, parliament and parliamentary opposition, communities and demographic trends during the period.
