Intermediate Spanish II

1. Course Description: The course is aimed at students who have already built the main structures and functions grammar of the language and can participate in informal and formal communicative situations. Deepen the skills in grammar, pronunciation and conversation developed in previous levels. It places emphasis on the expansion of grammatical competence in order to significantly increase the range of situations the student can express. It is important to note that this is an intensive Spanish course and that the student is immersed in the community that uses the language and, therefore, is
forced to use it in everyday situations. These dynamic features work together in learning accelerated language. This course aims to utilize this access to knowledge and the experience of Argentina's cultural patterns and encourage contact with the language.
2. Overall purpose and objectives:
A. Purpose of the Course: further develop the student's language skills. Upon completion, students should be able to narrate and describe in past, express the possibility of doubt, and make suggestions. Students must be able to formulate hypotheses, express probability and conjecture, and explain the logical connections. The course also aims for the incorporation of vocabulary in context, pronunciation, and
B. Course Objectives:
1. Incorporate grammatical and lexical knowledge of Spanish skills already possessed by students.
2. Contextualizing grammatical elements from the point of view of real communication.
3. Emphasize the relationship between language and culture so that the students understand that learning a language is accessing a culture.
Presentation of the phonetic, morphosyntactic and lexical Spanish River Plate. Present brief review of the indicative mood. Review of contrast-Imperfect Permanent. Review of the main uses of the Present Subjunctive Mode. Review pronominal replacement.
Other uses of the Present Subjunctive Mode: final propositions, concessive (Only if), manners, respect. Relative pronouns. Indicative-Alternation Subjunctive-infinitive. Verbs of change (be, become, become, become, made, become): function and use.
Past Imperfect Subjunctive Mode: morphology and use. Present perfect tense composed of the subjunctive mood: morphology and use. Past perfect Mode Subjunctive: morphology and use. Temporal correlation: time sequence of the subjunctive mood.

Conjecture and probability. Future Conditional Imperfect and Simple. Future Perfect and
Conditional Compound: morphology and use.
Direct and indirect style. Correlation times. The condition 'if'. Outline of conditional sentences. The award for 'even'. Outline of concessive sentences. The passive voice.
Adversative constructions with links like but, but, but, rather, however, however, and so on. The cause and consequence. Nexos. Using modes of expression of the cause and
of consequence. The expression of the result with and without intensification. Uses of
prepositions. Review for / by. Verb + preposition.
3.1. Cultural content:
As was previously mentioned, one of the objectives of the course is to emphasize the relationship between language and culture. We understand that for the student of a foreign language it is necessary to incorporate the cultural norms of the linguistic community that uses the language. In this sense, the cultural component is linked to the course in the form of 'cultural units' such as texts, films, songs, and visits to museums.

The course will work with different types of written and oral exercises, reading comprehension and analysis of different texts, written work, oral presentations, debates, songs, games; projection sequence Argentine films in Spanish with subtitles. The Department of Spanish as a foreign language has also a Language Laboratory.
The activity that takes place in the classroom should be complemented with the implementation of tasks in the home. Students also give short written productions. In the allocation of points final item includes participation from performing any work home, compositions, and all other forms of active intervention in the classroom that students exercise. The assessment of students is done through a final oral and written examination.
