'A man who does not think for himself - does not think at all' Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900)

This fast paced course is designed to awaken students minds, taking information on 'face value' will become a thing of the past. We will learn how construct and deconstruct arguments, discuss news values, media ownership, marketing, imaging and anything and everything that is current in the media at the time. There will be a guest speaker; Radcliffe Royds a hedge fund manager (who last year predicted the recent CRUNCH during his lecture with summer school students). 

 The module will cover how to deconstruct a documentary and various news items and subjects as reported in the press including:  the shift in the commodities market, unethical business practice, child labour, control of images in the print media, the art market, an Americans right to bear arms and the harrowing documentary Taxi To The Darkside. You will watch a variety of relevant films and documentaries during the module and visit a relevant gallery and London institution.
