French 400 places emphasis on mastering techniques that have already been learned. Students should refine written and spoken skills and be able to communicate in a sophisticated manner. Students should have a strong command of the language prior to enrolling in this course.
French 400 is divided into two required components - language (cours pratiques) and phonetics. In order to receive credit on their transcripts, students must pass both components of this two-part course. The language (cours pratiques) component consists of ten hours of classroom instruction per week, while the phonetics component consists of two and a half hours per week of phonetics laboratory. On average students will receive 12.5 contact hours per week for four weeks. This class focuses on acquiring a more sophisticated written and spoken style. Emphasis is on perfecting techniques already learned.
